THUYẾT MINH TỔNG QUAN

The Resort concept of Naman Retreat is providing physical and mental treatment for the long stay guests by the nature friendly environment and healthy activities such as spa, yoga, beach sports and so on. To achieve a perfect atmosphere that enables the guests a maximum body and mind purification and relaxation, the resort was designed by harmonious mix of greenery, natural stone and bamboo. 

In an area of 3.4 hectares, the design mission is to harmonize 80 bungalows, hotels, 2 beachfront villas, a restaurant, a spa, together with the infinity pool and several beach services such as beach bar and beach club. Two roads start the entrance to the seaside thoroughly connecting every service areas and bringing fresh and gracious breath of sea breeze to the internal space. Trees are planted along the roads, especially, bamboos are formed into closed canopies, like a thick curtain separating private sector and thereby, serving a precious time for guests when staying here. Central space is given priority with a larger area with open spaces, mainly created bamboos functioned as Lobby, Restaurants, Bar.

Two waving beachfront villas, located in the front seaward side, were planned in an unordinary way. Each one of them, is covered with a continuously undulating green roof and bamboo textured wall, which encourages a through view of the entire area directed to the sea without being restricted, following the nature and tourists’ inspiration. Hotel building named Babylon is the tallest building - all three stories are designed with louvers covering the facade - a prototype of double skin layer, adding available spaces for interlaced greening, forming an absolute green sector, which stands out of the remaining buildings. Bungalow clusters were smoothly and ingeniously combined with four houses in each, creating a Swastikas shape in a narrow square plot with twenty one meter in length for each side. All these four houses have a small common courtyard, while accompanied by a particular courtyard and a pool for each. Consequently, approximately thirty percent of the all bungalows are alternated by two-story bungalows, creating an overall view as bobbing houses in the old quarters.

The central facilities such as Hay Hay restaurant, beach bar and conference hall was designed with bamboo structure to provide spatial experience with relax atmosphere which cerebrates stay in the resort.

(The addition written by N Quang Dau, one of Project Architects when he was working for Vo Trong Nghia Architects, now founder of MODS)

It is worthwhile to recall some past experiences in this project. Naman Retreat Resort is approximately 6.4ha in area, which was designed in 2013, completed and in operation in 2015. It is a part of the larger masterplan by the investment of The Empire Group, who known as in another name which is Thanh Do Investment Development and Construction Jsc. This large complex is hopeful to become a center of relaxing and dwelling in the near future that can serve many citizens and guests who come to stay or experience their travels. Its advantages are not only close to the sea but also close to a very beautiful river of Da Nang which is Co Co River, with its remarkabe grace. Furthermore, there is a beautiful coastal road; near the sea just several hundred meters, this road divides the masterplan into two parts. It is the very important axis which connects gripping significant places include scenic places for tourists, playing-entertaining venues and well-known services along this road from Da Nang to Hoi An Old Town - a preserving old and lovely town of Vietnam and very famous in the world that recognized by travellers as one of their destinations when come to Vietnam. Location of the resort on the city map is also an advantage that worth-considering, a great persuation to the customers in terms of mobility; where is at the middle of Da Nang and Hoi An with about 15km for half road, thus the guests who stay near here can easily take a peaceful journey to Da Nang center or the old quaters in the opposite direction by simple ways such as booking cyclo or driving bicycle.

This project, we trust that the success firstly came from the understanding and the arrangement; we have appreciated that it was a very important investment of the clients who did lay a great reliance on us. Along with organizing an applicable team with the assignment to work together, design members have tried to comfort the conflicts in relationships with our clients, and internally among us as well.

Actually, I remember that the contact representative, an architect in the team, announced the team once or twice with the same content that our clients perhaps had the intention to stop the project. They must have needed to delay the plan to build. Accordingly, they would hire other architects for another season. In this case, either the clients will keep the government-approved masterplan but not architecture parts, or they just stop the project but it is not sure if the masterplan will be applied or not. It is necessary to let you know clearly that for this type of project, there are usually two parts: Planning and Architecture. In this case, the client will keep the master plan approved by the government but not the architecture, or even they just stop the project but then they hire a re-planning: obviously, when the masterplan is not applied or only the planning is applied without the architecture, the architecture designs on it, even just drafts of the 1st term, will be mostly changed. This does not necessarily mean that the two sides do not like each other, it is simply just a phenomenon that occurs commonly in master planning projects. Design fee surely is important but it is just a small number in comparison with the total investment fee of a big project. In that context and for the category of this project, the investor could contract once again with one of many good quality architecture firms for further design or redesign. Of course our team, the architects, do not claim that we can completely afford to solve such troubles and make everything continue, but we also had our worth considering efforts. In addition to the efforts in work that do not need to be detailed here, we also have other tries as mentioned briefly at the beginning of this paragraph, such as small efforts which are patience and trying to reconcile and heal conflicts in relationships with our hope to let the project go ahead. Somehow one day, my counterpart - the contact representative as introduced, informed everyone again that the clients already agreed on the concept design and requested us to continue the phase of detailed work. There, I do not know if that is the result of the above efforts or just simply the intention of our clients, the project has been still going on...Via this description as well as the presentation of this resort, I would like to express my truely thank to our clients and all the members of the team.
