Bungalow Architecture

Bungalow fundamentally a small one-story house with a yard, living room and bedroom, but in accordance with the project's criteria, the bungalows here are kept to a minimum, consisting of only one bedroom integrated with a bathroom, along with with a small front patio, aiming to serve middle-class customers, within affordable accommodation prices. This is also appropriate with the area and the shape of this site; accordingly, the architects and clients agreed to arrange 20 apartments, classified into two types: type A has a usable floor area of 33.7 square-meters and Type B has a usable floor area of 25.7 square-meters. These bungalows are designed with bamboo structure and thatched roof in order to bring the intimacy to the guests, which basically are features and qualities that the city residents often look for on their vacations. The facade of each bungalow therefore does not have a partition wall, but is fully a glazing which fits the perimeter of the elevation, in order to provide maximum openness when viewing the landscape ahead.

This bamboo frame prototype is a simple type if in comparison with other bamboo buildings. It was fabricated by bamboos called Tam Vong that able to be bent, a preeminent bamboo species grows well in the South Vietnam and Cambodia. Each frame consists of 2 bending layers: the first layer is the upper one which forms the roof shape, the second layer which supports the first one and strengthens the whole frame.

The function of the room as mentioned is quite simple within an usuable area of 25 - 33 m2 including the front patio. However, each room has basic amenities including a double bed, a wardrobe with suitcase storage, a mini-bar including a small refrigerator and the space for glasses and dishes. Type A rooms are larger so that an additional single bed can be arranged if needed, to accommodate 3 friends renting to stay in a bungalow or a couple and their child.

Landscape

This bungalow area is located in a larger complex of La Vong Eco Resort. Accordingly, in addition to resting and sightseeing here, tourists will also visit and enjoy other services in the resort for their vacation, as the orientation clearly indicated on the masterplan. However, internally in this area, the architects have tried to plan zones for grass surfaces and trees, mainly arranged interspersed between houses, in the expanding areas of this narrow strip, as well as at the frontside near the lake. Besides, the combination of materials of thatched roofs, bamboo and paving stones, the alternation of trees with dwelling blocks and walkways is a clear landscape design intention, that is worthy to be recognized as it contributes to forming the beauty of this small area. For the frontside of the bungalows which is close to the lake, it is the part with variable area as informed in the specification section in the first part, about fluctuations in build density. This is due to the changing of water level. The water level is up means the site becomes narrower. However, this plot is also intended to plant specific trees which are semi-submerged existing. Consequently, this sloping side is completely green, to comfort the guests' eyes when they look out over the water as well as towards the opposite side of the lake which is the place of other services of the resort.

Due to the fact that the presentation data  for a schematic design document is quite limited, the work of handmade modelling is distinguished here as a particular section, to show more clearly the structural model of the bungalow and its architecture, as well as our effort design work, although this is just a concept design.
