Summary Introduction About Masterplan
Beside the main linking road between Da Nang city and Hoi An old town, Naman Retreat Resort, a qualified coastal resort is located 16 km away from Da Nang international airport. Naman Retreat is designed as a tropical green resort complex, modern but peaceful. (you are posible to read the presentation of Naman Retreat Resort at this link) In an area of 3.4ha, the mission is to harmonize 80 bungalows, hotels, 2 VIP villas, a restaurant, a spa, together with the infinity pool and several beach services such as beach bar and beach club. Two roads start from the entrance to the seaside. The concept of resort is providing physical and mental treatment for the long stay guests by the nature friendly environment and healthy activities such as spa, yoga, beach sports and so on. To achieve a perfect atmosphere that enables the guests a maximum body and mind purification and relaxation, the resort was designed by harmonious mix of greenery, natural stone and bamboo.
The Beach Bar
Facing the infinity pool and located right next to the sand beach there is a beach bar. This sheltered semi opened space was designed to provide the area for relaxation where guests can enjoy drinks in front of the pool with a direct view to the beach. This pitched roof building has an intentionally very simple structure that doesn’t disturb view from the restaurant and yet attract the guests to come and have a drink after meals.
---
The shelter of the bar is designed by the bamboo and stone. The stone part accommodates the service facilities and storage for the need of the bar. The stone walls also function as a part of the bearing support for the bamboo roof. The main structure of the pitched roof is created by eight bamboo frames. Each of these frames consist of bended and straight bamboos that are connected by bamboo nails and ropes. These frames are designed perpendicular to the beach which allows the wind to go through the whole bar providing a nice breeze from the sea.
---
The bamboo poles used for the structure were all naturally treated in situ. The process consists of the bending by fire, soaking in the water and fumigation. This procedure took 4 months, to achieve better quality of the bamboo. After this process, the frames were prefabricated on the ground which increases the precision of each frame and decreases the construction time. This construction method was proven to be very efficient and the quality control during the construction much more easier. The roofing material is a natural thatch roof. This material creates a very tropical image together with the green landscape around the building that enhance the relaxed atmosphere of the resort.

Additonal Descriptions
PHẦN TRÌNH BÀY BỔ SUNG
(The addition written by N Quang Dau, Project Architect for VTN Architects, now founder of MODS)
On the masterplan, the building is located in a place which is able to affect around. When the project was just drafted, Beach Bar was considered that, besides it would combine with Beach Club and Central Swimming Pool to serve joiners in the relaxation area (pool area), Beach Bar itself must be able to cause the note of guests from the beach as well as people from bungalows, hotel, restaurant on their ways to the beach. It was expected to be a good stop. At the beginning, the concept 1 was proposed which has almost bamboo structure with a stone wall as its back facade which affords to keep the bamboo part from strong winds. However, the investor later has requested the architects to add more areas for the storages, wcs and a technical room. Therefore, the concept 2 was proposed instead, with an additional volume built by concrete structural frame, brick walls and with stone finishing, to fulfill those functions. This concept was chosen and developed, became the real building now of the resort.
Regarding structural function of the box, its concrete attic floor provides abutments for the left bases of bamboo frames. An abutment in these, is not a normal one to lay the component on; it is accompanied with a metallic detail which roles as an inverse hook to hold tightly the base of bamboo frame at its position on the concrete floor. Obviously, this detail was also installed in the base of each column. The architects also added some steel wires from the attic floor to connect with the tops of bamboo frames, as the providing more ability of holding for whole bamboo system.
